Like many other Americans, I am starting 2014 off with a diet, but a different kind of diet. Oh, I am on that other kind of diet, too, but this is a knitting blog. I am talking about a yarn diet. A yarn diet is when a knitter proclaims that she will not purchase another skein of yarn until she knits down her stash. My yarn issue goes a bit further because I am not even concerned with stash knitting. I am overrun with unfinished projects. We knitters are such a creative bunch that just one project is not enough hold our attention for very long. If one project is good, then two projects must be better and three projects at one time are awesome. This week I cleaned out my knitting bag and found that I have six projects at various stages of completion. That’s just in the knitting bag – I’m sure if I looked around the house I could find one or five more.
My six projects include five pairs of socks and a pair of fingerless mitts. Four pairs of the socks are intended for me which is unusual because I rarely knit for myself. I plan to give the other pair of socks to my mom when they are completed. The fingerless mitts are supposed to be for charity, but the first one turned out so well that I think I am going to keep them for myself. Does that make me a bad person?
Please join me on my journey to complete my six projects and resist the temptation to cast on another project. I have been strong so far, but who knows what tomorrow will bring.
